Effects of the Removal of Marmot Dam

Dear Sandy Community Members and Sandy River Recreationists,

The Portland State University students of the Ecosystem Services class would like to invite you to a presentation for the Sandy community on the effects of the removals of Marmot Dam and Roslyn Lake. This past winter, these students conducted research in the Sandy area on the effects of these removals on the community, recreation economics, the physical environment, and the involved agencies. We would now like to thank the members of the Sandy community by hosting a special presentation on the results of our research.

Please join us on Wednesday, April 29th at 6:30 PM at Clackamas Community Bank’s Theater Room, 38975 Proctor Boulevard in Sandy. Thank you.

Fish De Jour

Steve Lane is one of my favorite clients. We have a great streak going. He has booked two days each year in April on the Sandy. This is year #3. We have landed Steelhead on every day we have been on the water together!
This wild buck took a sparsely dressed classic spey fly on a light weight tip.

It was a great day to be on the river!

Spey-O-Rama part1

I was hoping to keep a daily log, so much to talk about but every night after hours of practice the only thing I thought about was my pillow.
It's Sunday night, nerves have settled, competitors are returning home from a phenomenal event! Four months ago I had no idea that I would be standing in a pool, casting a rod twice the size of me, meeting some of the best casters from around the world. The energy is dynamic and precise. Competing in a world class, double handed rod competition, requires skill and practice.

The women competitors stepped it up to a new level this year by casting consistently over 100 feet! Whitney's diligent practice payed off with two cast at 117, she took first!

The performance of the men is inspiring. My two coaches placed in the top 10. Brian earned a third place and Mariusz with little practise this year made the 10th spot. Congratulation to everyone! To see results check out speypages .

Thank you Golden Gate Casting Club for your hospitality and hosting such a fun event. I love you Marty, I couldn't have done this without your support.
See ya next year!

Check back in a day or so for photos.

The Perry Poke

Mia and I went fishing with our friend Ed yesterday. Ed is a super jedi skagit guru. He gave us a short history of the perry poke. In a nut shell it goes like this: Karl (Perry) fucked up a single spey and improvised his way out of it with a dump in the cast. Steve Kruse saw it and showed Ed. Ed showed the world. In the mean time Mia got a hot wild hen to the beach fishing behind Ed and me!

Today I got to fish, and landed one too! Here's how it worked out. Tim has been the best client for us at Little Creek. In one year he has booked what I call the Grand Slam, a trip on the Grande Ronde for steelhead, the John Day for bass and steelhead, and the Sandy River. Thanking him for the good supply of work and good times he gives us, I provided a free trip for him and Paul on the Sandy today! Worked out pretty good I would say. One problem...I can't get ahead of these guys. I also landed lower level seats to the Lakers/Blazers game with Tim! Life is good.
